Gnome

Gnomes are small in stature and enormous in ambition, the builders of a steam-driven marvel beneath the mountains. That city was lost to invasion, and its builders now live as wanderers in the dwarven lands.

Place and people

Who the gnomes are

“Indeed, their subterranean kingdom, Gnomeregan, was once a marvel of steam-driven technology.”

Blizzard, 22 September 2026

Blizzard’s Forever introduction tells how the gnomes of Khaz Modan used their great intellect to secure a place in history. A massive trogg invasion cost them Gnomeregan, and its builders now aid their allies as best they can.

Blizzard’s 2020 Classic introduction calls them clever and eccentric: tinkerers, trailblazers and technological geniuses. Their race page adds what makes them good company, an optimism that holds even in calamity.

In long-standing lore, the gnomes live alongside the dwarves of Ironforge while Gnomeregan remains lost.

New in Forever

The gnome priest

Blizzard’s 22 September article lists Gnome Priests among Forever’s new combinations. It is a new path for a people best known for their engineering.

The article does not describe how gnome priests are introduced in the world, and we have not verified a trainer or first quest.

Beginning

Where the story begins

Starting area in Forever

Blizzard has not named a Forever starting area for the gnomes in the sources we follow, so we do not name one. The maps below show the homeland in lore, not a confirmed first step.

Home in lore

Gnomeregan was their capital until the trogg invasion. In long-standing lore the gnomes now live in the dwarven lands of Khaz Modan.
