The Wardrobe is open: dress, pose and share a Forever character

Version 0.1 of our 3D dressing room: every race, thousands of items, up to five characters on one stage, pictures and video for your own content.

The Wardrobe is open on RestedRealm. It is a 3D dressing room for World of Warcraft: Forever: you put gear on a character, turn it around, set it moving, and keep the result as a picture or a video. We are calling this version 0.1, because it works and it is early, and we would rather say so than pretend it is finished.

What you can do with it

  • Dress any race. Ten races, both bodies of each, and 5,727 items across fourteen slots, read from the Forever beta client. Skin, face and hair come with them.
  • Classic or high definition. Forever lets you choose between the classic models and the high-definition ones. The Wardrobe draws both, so you can see the same outfit on each.
  • Bring friends. Up to five characters stand on one stage, each with its own race, outfit and name. Put each one where you want it: across the floor, lifted, turned or leaning.
  • Pose it. Walking, running, a ready stance, an attack and nineteen emotes, from a wave to a dance. A timeline under the stage holds a character still, and steps one frame at a time until the pose is right.
  • Keep it. Save a picture in four sizes, with its backdrop, see-through, or on a green screen. Record a video of the stage, up to a minute, in your browser.
  • Save your scenes. Give a scene a name and open it again later. Signed in, it is kept on your account and follows you to another device.

A screenshot with your friends

This is the part we enjoy most. Dress five characters, give each a different emote, hold every one at the frame you like, and you have the group picture you would normally have to organise five people for. The picture at the top of this story was made that way: a wave, a cheer caught mid-jump, a roar, a dance and a round of applause, each stopped at its own moment.

The record button films the stage as it moves. A character you are holding still stays still in the video, so you can have one frozen mid-leap while the others carry on. For cutting characters out in a video editor there is a green screen backdrop, and a stage view that shows nothing but the stage for recording with OBS.

Use it for your own content

The pictures and recordings are yours to use: a thumbnail, a guild recruitment post, a transmog idea you want opinions on, a video. They are made in your browser and are not sent to us. The characters and their gear remain Blizzard's art, so use them as you would any other screenshot of the game.

Classic and high-definition models

Put the same outfit on both and stand them side by side. It is the quickest way to decide which set of models you want to look at for the next few hundred hours.

Share it in the community

An outfit or a whole scene can be published to the community from the Share tab. The Wardrobe takes the picture and writes the gear list for you. Anyone can then try your outfit on their own character, make their own version of it, which credits yours, and see where its pieces are said to come from. Themed challenges, with a few days to enter and a few days to vote, are set there too.
