[Mac] 8 different graphics bugs, each isolated to one setting — with repro steps for each

RommaxWoW DeveloperIn Development › WoW: Forever Beta Discussion

Sorry for the lack of updates as and after the beta ended. I’ve made several fixes for issues after the beta ended (including a fix this morning). If everything goes according to plan, there should still be time to get everything into the first launch build. Once I know what that build number will be, I can update this thread with that info at the bottom.

Looking back on it all, this issue has been pretty crazy. It appears there were around 10 different/unrelated bugs that were all causing the same/similar visual issues. That’s a first for me.

After the beta ended, our QA team was able to find consistent repro steps for one of the remaining issues (on an M2 MacBook Air running macOS 13 of all things). That helped greatly with solving that issue (which ended up being caused by reading memory garbage, which helps explain why the bug was so hard to reproduce).

Interestingly, the most recent bugfix may also fix some user reports of things being “overly dark” on PC. It seems at least once of the bugs causing crazy color/tint issues on Mac was also causing things to be overly dark on PC. The difference being how different GPU hardware handles undefined behavior.

I’m feeling pretty good about all the color/tint issues being fixed now, but if there are more remaining issues (which is certainly possible), we’ll work on addressing them as quickly as possible post-release.

Update:
The build with all the fixes so far is 70755, so as long as the launch day build is 70755 or higher, it should have everything. It’s looking very likely that that will be the launch day build.
